Peterborough Youth Soccer

PYSC, or the Peterborough Youth Soccer Club, is one of the largest and longest-running youth soccer organizations in Peterborough, Ontario. Founded in 1972, the club provides organized soccer programs for children and teenagers across the region, helping introduce thousands of young players to the sport over the past five decades.
The club focuses primarily on recreational youth soccer, offering programs for players from approximately age 4 through U18 divisions. PYSC emphasizes:
- Skill development
- Teamwork and sportsmanship
- Fun and participation
- Community involvement
- Accessible youth recreation
Programs are designed to accommodate players of all experience levels, from first-time participants to more experienced youth athletes.
PYSC organizes:
- Outdoor summer soccer leagues
- Indoor winter soccer
- House league and recreational divisions
- Youth referee development
- Volunteer coaching opportunities
- Community soccer events and tournaments
The club places strong importance on player development in a positive environment. Younger divisions often use modified game formats and development-focused rules, such as the “Retreat Rule,” which encourages passing and skill-building rather than overly aggressive defensive pressure.
PYSC is part of the broader soccer structure in Ontario and works alongside organizations such as:
- Ontario Soccer
- East Central Ontario Soccer Association (ECOSA)
- Peterborough City Soccer Club (PCSC)
While PYSC is mainly recreational, many players eventually move into more competitive pathways through clubs like Peterborough City Soccer Club.
Games and practices are typically held at soccer fields throughout Peterborough, including Eastgate Park and other municipal facilities. The organization relies heavily on volunteer coaches, referees, sponsors, and local families to operate its programs successfully.
Beyond soccer itself, PYSC plays a major role in youth sports culture in Peterborough by promoting healthy activity, teamwork, confidence, and community engagement for young athletes and their families.
